Course Title:

GERO/SOWK 3230 SDE/SDF: Dementia Care: A Case Study Approach

Please note that this is a cross-listed course between Gerontology and Social Work.

Spring 2015 (May 1 through June 30)

 

Credit Weight:

0.5 FCE

 

Method of Delivery:

 

Offered as a web-based course. Please note that the successful candidate must possess the ability to teach using an online learning platform, although assistance will be made available via the Office of Continuing Education & Distributed Learning.

 

Course Description:

 

The case study approach will be used to explore the concepts of holistic care of persons with dementia. Principles, theories and knowledge of dementia and dementia care acquired will be integrated into these cases.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Post Graduate degree in a discipline related to gerontology;

Familiarity with basic concepts, issues and current trends in dementia care;

Ability to teach gerontology from an interdisciplinary perspective;

Experience with interacting with older adults;

The ability to perform various duties of the position, and applicable prior experience;

Preference will be given to candidates with successful experience using distance education modes of delivery (particularly online course delivery); and

Knowledge and interest in promoting interprofessional knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
