Education Planner, Part-time Contract
Job Description
Palliative Care Education Delivery and Curriculum Development:
Plans, develops, coordinates, delivers and evaluates palliative care education to interprofessional health care providers (with a special focus in NW Ontario) to increase the local community capacity to provide palliative care as a core part of primary healthcare. Oversees and assists with the development of palliative care education curriculum. (.5 FTE, 2.5 days/week)
Thunder Bay Medical Society Education:
Works with the Thunder Bay Medical Society Continuing Medical Education (CME) planning committee to plan and develop three CME events a year in Thunder Bay for physicians and allied healthcare providers residing in northwestern ON. (.2 FTE, 1 day per week).
Key Responsibilities:
1) Program and Curriculum Development
Recruits and coordinates course facilitators, secures venues, schedules educational events (workshops, courses, video conference events), advertises courses, supervises registration process
Oversees and assists with development of curriculum, working with content experts and graphic designers
Participates in relevant education committees and task groups
2) Program Delivery & Evaluation
Collaborates with community agencies, health care providers and local communities to
co-sponsor/deliver events
Provides on-site course coordination and supervision function
Prepares and disseminates information about CERAH palliative care education activities through newsletters, newspaper articles, scholarly reports, conference presentations, media releases, CERAH website and facebook
Develops and/or maintains knowledge in the use and care of video conference equipment and Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) event scheduling and delivery
Completes program/course evaluations and tracks program statistics
3) Financial Planning and Revenue Generation
Monitors project expenditures to ensure they are within approved budgets
Identifies and assesses opportunities for new initiatives and revenue generation for CERAH
4) CERAH Development & Sustainability
Works with CERAH staff and stakeholders to support Centre activities and enhance centre overall success
Promotes the Centre by developing/nurturing strong community partnerships
Shares expertise, new knowledge and creative project activities with CERAH team members
Collaborates with community stakeholders by actively participating in committees or task groups
5) Other duties as required
Knowledge/Skills
Masters degree preferably with training in Aging, Health, Gerontology or Palliative Care
Knowledge and experience in adult education and curriculum development are assets
Demonstrated ability to organize workload, set priorities and work within deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of community resources
Proficiency in use of computers and applications that support teaching, learning and curriculum development
Solid judgment, problem-solving and negotiation skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Flexibility in a changing environment and varied demands
Ability to form and maintain relationships through teamwork and networking
