9-Month Renewable Contract (Sept-May)

The Department of Geography is seeking an energetic, motivated individual to manage the Lakehead University Geospatial Data Centre (LUGDC). The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing collection, development, organization, and maintenance of digital geospatial data, as well as a paper map collection and other cartographic resources. Specific duties include production of publication-quality maps, fulfilling student and faculty data requests, and developing partnerships both on-campus and with external clients.  Additionally, the incumbent is expected to supervise the usage of the data centre and provide assistance to students, staff and the broader university community in accessing the data centre's resources.   

Ideally, the incumbent has an undergraduate degree in Geography, Environmental Science or a related field, with post-graduate training and/or work experience in geomatics.  The individual should have a demonstrated working knowledge and experience using common software packages in cartography, Geographic Information Systems, digital image processing, graphics production, and spatial database management.  Strong organizational and communication skills, coupled with an ability to promote and market products and services provided by the GDC, both within and external to the university, are essential for this position.
