Basketball Coach

Orillia Athletics and Recreation

CONTRACT Jan 4 to March 31, 2016

Lakehead University Orillia is an affiliate member of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA), we are seeking a passionate and experienced coach to take the lead role with the Basketball program. This is a yearly part time position compensated with bi-weekly pay during the Basketball season.

Reporting to the Athletics & Recreation Facilitator, Orillia, the Basketball coach will oversee the development of the Basketball program through the continued development of our student athletes. 

Lakehead University's Orillia Campus is seeking part time coaches for the following teams:

- Men's & Women?s Basketball

Duties:

- Player selection

- Preparing coaching sessions in advance

- Further develop of student athletes skill set

- Technical preparation and implementation of tactics and strategies

- Running weekly practices and attending games and tournaments (Evenings and weekend required)

- Travel with the team to games and tournaments on university provided transportation

- Oversees the Health and Safety of participants

- Informing the Athletics and Recreation Facilitator in advance of any sessions which cannot be attended

- Acting as a representative of Lakehead University and conducting oneself in a professional manner in accordance with University policy

- Management and administrative duties will be shared with the Athletics and Recreation Facilitator

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess coaching experience and certifications (NCCP certification preferred).   Be committed to the team by attending all practices and games including weekdays, evenings and weekends. Ability to interact with and mentor athletes within a post-secondary setting by utilizing effective organizational, communication, interpersonal, leadership and team building skills.  The coach will follow Ontario College Athletic Association policies and procedures and lead the program by example. Standard First Aid and CPR certificate is required.
