Temporary Position Up to 8 Months in Duration

Hours of work - 4pm to 12 midnight



Under general supervision, the incumbent will provide support to the circulation desk.  Following is a brief outline of the responsibilities:

DUTIES:

  • Sign out and return various library materials (books, reserves, journals, exams, theses, room keys and lap tops);
  • Instruct users on how to search reserves, renew books online and view their patron record;
  • Receive materials to be placed on reserve and electronic reserve and ensure completion and accuracy of information received;
  • Receive payments for fines, interlibrary loans, lost books, Photo ID, etc.;
  • Make account adjustments in the Voyager Circulation system;
  • Operate cash register and provide change;
  • Issue library cards to external borrowers including alumnus, high school students, college students, member of the community, etc.;
  • Assist students in the use of photocopiers, microform printer/readers and computer printers;
  • Assist with the use of the copy card system and changing unit;
  • Follow procedures for opening and/or closing of the Library when necessary;
  • Maintain daily statistics on patron numbers, special issues, etc.;
  • Perform other related duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Grade 12 with some post-secondary education considered to be an asset;
  • Familiarity with automated library systems;
  • Knowledge of the following circulation areas: reserves, recalls/over dues and electronic reserves, billing, special issues, University photo ID;
  • Ability to key 40 words per minute;
  • Training in the use and daily maintenance of a cash register;
  • Ability to interact with students, staff and the public, exercising diplomacy and discretion;
  • Excellent communication, spelling and grammar skills both written and verbal;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player;
  • Ability to use a variety of office equipment, such as photocopiers, fax machines, etc.;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
