Three-Year Contract

Reporting to the Director, International, the Academic Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all academic aspects of Lakehead University's English Language Program (ELP).  Specific responsibilities include the development, maintenance and revision of curriculum for all programs.  Additionally, the Academic Coordinator will instruct ELP courses and serve as the primary point of contact between administration and instructors for performance matters as well as for students on academic matters.  It is the expectation that the successful candidate will oversee the completion of student progress reports and provide counsel to instructors on the use of curriculum and evaluation materials in an effort to ensure consistency of outcomes.  This position may evolve to include teacher evaluation and professional development.

The successful candidate must have completed a masters degree (TESL, Applied Linguistics, DELTA, etc.) with preference given to those with five years' experience teaching ESL to adults and developing curriculum. Additional qualifications include an awareness of current trends in ESL programs and exams as well as demonstrated experience as a professional examiner and in the development of evaluation material. An outstanding communicator, the Academic Coordinator has excellent teaching and interpersonal skills along with a classroom presence.  Excellent time management and organizational skills along with the proven ability to establish priorities and work in a self-directed manner are critical in this role.
