Student Success Advisor (Orillia)

Full time hours, Up to 12-month contract

Band 4 - $47,106 to $58,883.05

Under the direction of the Manager, Student Success Centre and the Director, Student Affairs, the Student Success Advisor (SSA) will work one-on-one with students to develop meaningful relationships, assist student in discovering their academic and careers goals, and help students to create plans that lead to the achievement of those goals.

The SSA will oversee a variety of student success programs, events and supports that contribute to the overall retention rates of the University while improving student experience and satisfaction. The role has specific responsibilities relating to Student Success Advising, Gateway and At-Risk supports, Orientation, First-Year Programming, Leadership and other student engagement services.

The successful candidate will possess:

Post Secondary degree in a related field;

3 years of related experience including with large-scale event planning and logistics, and working in an advisory role, ideally with a student population

Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills;

Excellent organization and prioritization skills;

Ability to work with a diverse population, interpreting and applying student transcripts, university policy, and program requirements to effectively support students;

Ability to work well in a team or independently, including ability to lead events and teams;

Knowledge of university programs, regulations and services along with knowledge of student groups and student life cycle;

Knowledge of budget monitoring, risk management and event planning concepts

Knowledge of career development theory, career assessments, and advising theory (in particular appreciative advising);

Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and judgment in dealing with difficult and sensitive issues; and

Proficient computers skills including with Email, Word Processing, presentation software, databases, and related office software.
