OUTDOOR RECREATION PARKS AND TOURISM

This position has Levels A - D with the salary ranging from $42,768.37 - $79,168.32

Level and salary commensurate with education and experience

Reporting to the Director, the successful incumbent will be responsible for planning and performing highly specialized and complex technical duties for the School of Outdoor Recreation, Parks & Tourism. The incumbent will be working collaboratively with faculty, under their general supervision but working independently in planning, organizing and executing projects and duties. Extensive use of judgement, originality and creativity is required. The successful incumbent must have extensive risk management experience, expertise in outdoor recreation activities, is current with industry standards, and a leader in the field to promote the profession for our students.

Duties include:

Plans, performs and provides technical support, advice and assistance to students and faculty during laboratory classes and field studies, designing and constructing materials where necessary.

Assumes responsibility for the allocation and maintenance of equipment and for recommendations concerning repairs or replacement of equipment; responsible for coordination and maintenance of the laboratory work areas; shared responsibilities for inventory.

In consultation with faculty, designs, prepares, and instructs student laboratories for and in classroom and field settings.

Where applicable, assumes financial responsibilities for his/her area of specialization, including assistance in budget preparation and competent control of expenditures.

May supervise technical/technological support staff including organizing work schedules and handling the required related administration duties.

Coordinates the usage of laboratory equipment and space.

Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, with other health and safety-related legislation and standards, and with such workplace practices as outlined by his/her immediate supervisor.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree required; equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Working knowledge and experience of safety and risk management and ability to lead students in various settings. 

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Teaching experience and advanced certification in a number of outdoor recreation areas.

Class F Ontario driver's licence or equivalent.
