Lakehead University invites applications for the position of Co-op and Employer Relations Officer.  Reporting to the Manager of Student Success Centre, the successful applicant's main responsibilities will be to create and maintain multi-faceted relationships with employers, faculty and students as well as coordinate job development activities as they relate to co-operative education students.  Specific duties include working with students on identifying potential employment opportunities, providing individualized support, and guiding students through the co-op application and work term preparation process.  Additionally, the Co-op Employer Relations Officer will promote cooperative education programs on and off campus, develop promotional material, organize co-operative events and act as a liaison to University departments and external organizations.  Communications and records management will include maintaining co-op student files and submitting end of work term reports and evaluations. The incumbent will participate in other programs/services provided by the Student Success Centre as required throughout the year including Orientation and First Year Experience Programming as well as Career and Education Fairs.

The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree coupled with one year of employment advising and/or job development experience.  Proficiency with computers (experience in working with databases, desktop publishing, social media, and more) and the ability to manage a long range vision as well as immediate detail is required.  The Co-op and Employer Relations Officer will have working knowledge of the Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Workers Compensation Act, FIPPA, immigration as well as federal and provincial student/graduate employment programs.  Self-motivated, the incumbent will have exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills along with the ability to handle conflicting deadlines under pressure.  A valid driver's licence is required.
