Achievement Program Coordinator

Full-Time, Permanent Position

Working alongside several departments within the University community, and reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Achievement Program Coordinator provides strategic direction, resource planning leadership and administrative oversight to encourage participation and enrolment of students and families into an undergraduate pathway to Lakehead University. This position is a key leadership role within the university, promoting communications and relationships between internal and external partners in the university as well as local and regional communities, including local school boards, community social services agencies, the Office of the President, Aboriginal Initiatives, Recruitment, Student Awards & Financial Aid and External Relations. DUTIES:

  • Leading the Team Achievement program and developing strategies for growth and advancement of the  program vision and priorities;
  • Responsible for the organization, planning and execution of all program activities, including materials and supplies that support curriculum development, applicant information and program marketing;
  • Market and promote the program to youth participants, families and program partners
  • Provide training and orientation to volunteers, part-time staff and to coordinate performance evaluation opportunities;
  • Create outreach opportunities to engage students, faculty and staff;
  • Coordinate and arrange all transportation and accommodation for Team Achieve youth and their chaperones attending on-campus Team Achieve events; coordinate speakers for events;
  • Coordinate and organize Team Achieve Days;
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, program participants and donors;
  • Proactively seeks out new opportunities for partnership to encourage program growth and retention;
  • Oversees the preparation, managing, monitoring budgets;
  • Ability to travel to remote locations as required;
  • Other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education degree or certificate, preferably in Education, Social Work, Marketing, Business or combination education, skills and experience related to program curriculum development;
  • Comprehensive understanding and expertise in coordinating programs and working with children and youth;
  • Knowledge of the socioeconomic barriers to education;
  • Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum;
  • Financial management experience;
  • Experience in managing staff, with a crucial competency in teamwork;
  • Ability to nurture and steward existing relationships;
  • Ability to develop, design and implement strategy;
  • Proficiency with computer software programs, including the Microsoft Office and Adobe suites, as well as webpage management; 
  • Experience with Datatel/Colleague for budget reporting, purchase requisitions, et cetera considered an asset;
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work and handle all office duties in a confidential and diplomatic manner;
  • Ability to multitask a variety of high priority duties and work under the pressure of deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support and assistance with cultural competency in all interactions;
  • Ability to work independently.
