Director of Student Services and Skills

Three Year Contract (Renewable)

 

 

The Bora Laskin Faculty of Law is seeking applications for this newly approved position, which is integral to our operations and will serve a key role in the administration of the legal program and provide coordination of services for student recruitment and retention, delivery of the Integrated Practice Curriculum (IPC), and for career support for upper level students. Some travel will be required.


Reporting to the Dean, the successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of administrative ability in the following areas:

1)   Developing recruitment, admissions, and retention strategies for students, coordinating and managing implementation in close collaboration with key University offices;

2)    Coordinate the Integrated Practice Curriculum (IPC) throughout the three years of the legal program and serve as the primary resource for faculty members and instructors for delivery of the IPC;

3)    Assisting course instructors with developing skills exercise content for their courses;

4)    Coordinate the third year Practice Placement program with legal supervisors;

5)    Provide primary support for current law students for career counseling and services in entering the legal job market;

6)    Relationship building with Indigenous community partners; with local, regional and provincial legal partners; and other related important partners in government, business, and non-profit sectors; and

7)   Supervise Student Services Officer as support for the above areas.

 

The individual will work closely with the Dean in carrying out the objectives of the legal program for the benefit of the student population.

Qualifications:

·        This position requires someone with a JD or LL.B. degree with a minimum of three (3) years legal practice experience. The ideal candidate will have:

·        Membership in the Law Society of Upper Canada (licenced to practise law in Ontario);

·        Must have knowledge of Indigenous communities and the ability to work with individuals of various backgrounds;

·        Highly developed organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills;

·        Experience with post-secondary administration, program development and/or post-secondary instructional delivery would be an asset;

·        Experience with outreach to law firms, legal departments in government organizations, and community legal entities;

·        Ability to build and sustain positive work relationships with academic and other administrative units.

 

This position is an initial three-year full-time contract with potential for renewal and is subject to budgetary approval. Salary is commensurate with experience. If you are interested in applying, please submit your curriculum vitae and cover letter outlining your experience to:
