Intermediate Research Analyst (Business Intelligence)
Overview
Lakehead University is seeking a highly analytical, innovative, and collaborative professional to join the Office of Institutional Planning and Analysis as an Intermediate Research Analyst (Business Intelligence). Reporting to the Vice-Provost (Institutional Planning and Analysis), the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting institutional planning, strategic enrollment management, policy development, and evidence-based decision-making through advanced data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence solutions.
This position supports the University’s strategic priorities through the collection, analysis, interpretation, visualization, and communication of complex institutional data related to admissions, enrollment, student retention, graduation, and the student experience.
Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Business Intelligence
- Conduct quantitative, qualitative, and statistical analysis of institutional data from multiple systems and sources.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize dashboards, data visualizations, and automated reporting solutions to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Design and manage complex queries and datasets using institutional data systems and analytical tools.
- Identify trends, patterns, opportunities, and risks to inform strategic and operational planning. Institutional Reporting & Strategic Planning
- Support integrated planning initiatives and strategic enrolment management activities across the University.
- Produce reports and analyses required for internal stakeholders, senior leadership, governance bodies, and external agencies.
- Contribute to institutional accountability reporting and annual statistical publications.
- Support policy development and institutional planning through research and analytical insights.
Research & Survey Services
- Participate in research projects from conceptualization through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Monitor and analyze provincial and national post-secondary education trends and research.
- Respond to complex data and research requests from academic and administrative units.
- Support strategic reporting related to the University’s Strategic and Academic Plans. Program Planning & Quality Assurance
- Support data analysis and reporting for new program development and cyclical program reviews.
- Develop analytical approaches and reporting tools that improve efficiency and accessibility of institutional data.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work collaboratively with departments across the University including Finance, Student Affairs, ERP/TSC, and academic units.
- Participate in institutional committees and working groups related to analytics, planning, and enrolment management.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on data governance, reporting practices, and business intelligence capabilities.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred in a related field such as Business Analytics, Statistics, Social
- Sciences, Education, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis, statistical analysis, and research methodologies.
- Strong proficiency with:
- SQL
- Excel
- Tableau or similar data visualization tools
- SPSS or other statistical software
- Database and reporting systems
- Experience working with large and complex datasets from multiple sources.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and stakeholder groups.
- Knowledge of post-secondary education environments, institutional research, enrolment management, or government accountability frameworks is considered an asset.
