Postdoctoral Fellow in Population & Landscape Genetics of Woodland Caribou
Overview
We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to join an active research program examining the population and landscape genetics of woodland caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou) in
Northwestern Ontario. The position will focus on RADseq SNP datasets from two caribou ranges and will address questions related to fine-scale population structure, connectivity, and gene flow, with additional research directions developed collaboratively.
The successful candidate will contribute to research supporting provincial caribou conservation and boreal landscape planning, working within a dynamic academic and applied science environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead processing and analysis of RADseq SNP genotype data for woodland caribou from two northwestern Ontario ranges.
- Conduct analyses of genomic and spatial genetic data to address questions related to population structure, connectivity, and drivers of gene flow.
- Develop additional research questions in consultation with the PI.
- Maintain reproducible workflows for RADseq data processing and downstream analyses.
- Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to technical reports for government and industry partners.
- Present research findings at conferences and stakeholder meetings.
- Contribute to a collegial lab environment and provide informal mentorship to
- graduate and undergraduate students.
Qualifications
- PhD in biology, ecology, forestry, environmental management, or a related discipline (completed by the start date).
- Demonstrated experience in population or ecological genetics, including computational analysis.
- Hands-on experience working with RADseq datasets, including data cleaning, filtering, SNP calling, and downstream analytical workflows.
- Proficiency in R for data analysis and visualization; familiarity with genetic and spatial packages is preferred.
- Evidence of research productivity (publications, manuscripts in preparation, or equivalent).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Legally able to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for a work permit).
