Research Assistant/Intern

Thunder Bay
Full-time
Contract

Overview

The Research Intern will be expected to assist with various projects at CRaNHR, including those with the City of Thunder Bay and the Public Health Agency of Canada. The Intern will work alongside the established research team to assist in the evaluation of implementation and outcomes. This will provide opportunities for the research intern to gain experience in collecting and analysing program development and outcomes data, including surveys and interviews. In addition, the intern will also have opportunities to work closely with the research and evaluation team in preparing summaries of results, including technical reports, infographics and presentations. The intern will also be able to participate in local communities of practice and training events, including online webinars and conferences, gaining knowledge of GBV issues and educational strategies.

The Research Intern will create, in collaboration with the AOM IYS Network and the CRaNHR team, a customizable evaluation framework that Indigenous communities can use to evaluate their youth wellness programs. Within this environment, the Intern will work in close collaboration with the AOM IYWMHN Advisory Circle and Network partners to support the development of a customizable, accessible, adaptable, and feasible framework that is sensitive to cultural and community distinctions. Once the evaluation framework is developed, the Research Intern will have the opportunity to assist the CRaNHR and AOM IYMHN staff with implementing the framework within a Northern Ontario community site in order to garner feedback from diverse community/site representatives. The intern may be required to travel to these communities in order to perform culturally-relevant community-identified data collection methods (e.g., sharing circles, arts-based methods, focus groups, interviews, etc.). Once data collection is complete, the Intern will then integrate the feedback and compile a report that is co-developed with the community, CRaNHR, and the AOM IYWMHN research teams.

Upon completion of the internship, we expect the candidate would have the necessary skills and knowledge to accept a full-time research or evaluation coordinator position within the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research, at Lakehead University, or one of our community partner organizations.
