Strategic Mandate Agreement 2 (SMA2)

Ontario’s universities have successfully negotiated individual agreements with the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills, and Development (MAESD). These agreements demonstrate the breadth of all that Ontario’s universities achieve, including improving the student experience, preparing students for the workforce, leading research, economic and social development locally and globally, performing community outreach, and developing pathways between institutions, including colleges and Aboriginal Institutes.

The Lakehead University Strategic Mandate Agreement 2 (SMA2), (2017-2020) has been guided by the Ministry’s requirements and their Differentiation Policy Framework, Lakehead University’s Strategic and Academic plans, and was developed with input from representatives across each of the University’s functions, as well as faculty and staff.

Lakehead University’s Strategic Mandate Agreement 2 (2017-2020) outlines the role the University currently performs in Ontario’s post-secondary education system and how it will build on its current strengths to achieve its vision and help drive system-wide objectives articulated by the Ministry Differentiation Policy Framework.

Specifically, Lakehead’s Strategic Mandate Agreement 2 (2017-2020):

  • Identifies our University’s existing institutional strengths;
  • Supports the current vision, mission, and mandate of the University within the context of the University’s governing legislation and outlines how our University’s priorities align with Ontario’s vision for post-secondary education; and
  • Informs Ministry decision making and funding of students through greater alignment of Ministry policies and processes to further support and guide our University’s areas of strength.
