The Power of Self Care

International Self-Care Day is observed every July 24 (7/24) representing the need for self-care 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. This day is a great reminder that taking care of ourselves isn’t selfish—it’s essential!

Not only do individuals benefit from self care, but organizations do too!  A workplace that prioritizes self-care reaps numerous benefits. Employees who practice self-care are generally more productive, engaged, and creative. They tend to have better relationships with colleagues and are less likely to suffer from stress-related illnesses. Additionally, a culture that supports self-care can enhance employee retention and reduce absenteeism.

How Employers Can Support Self-Care at Work:

  • Model and support self-care habits
  • Incorporate walking meetings
  • Encourage use of breaks, vacation, and mental health days
  • Offer flexible/hybrid work options
  • Promote work-life balance
  • Provide access to an Employee Assistance Program

Wherever your work takes you, practice simple self-care strategies to help you be your best self every day. Things like staying hydrated, taking breaks, and moving around if you have a sedentary job can make a big difference. Check out the links below for other self-care ideas.
