What: field trip to Day 2 trade show/employer information fair at Day two of the Manufacturing Innovation Summit
When: Bus departs from Simcoe Hall at 11:00am on October 17, and returns to Simcoe Hall approximately 5:30pm that same day. 

At the event: 
You will visit the trade show B2B information fair, attend a panel discussion featuring employees and hiring managers from several local companies, and then participate in a workshop "Forge your Future" led by Lakehead University and the Barrie Sanbox where you will build your skills and learn how to rock your next interview for your upcoming co-op, summer, for full-time/graduate job. 

Important: students who attend this event must receive permission from faculty to miss class if class time conflicts with the event. Students will also be required to sign an off-campus field trip waiver in order to take the bus to the event. This field trip is not required for credit but is being organized by the department of Research & Innovation and Career Services & Co-op in order to provide you with opportunities to explore careers connected to research, innovation, and manufacturing. Seeking Employers: Network with your future employers

Are you planning to graduate this year? Would you like to learn more about employers who might like to hire you for full-time or co-op positions available right here in Simcoe County? Register for this interactive networking event. Employers from the community will come to share information with you about their own career stories and about careers available in their businesses. Staying healthy this semester

As the new school year begins, be sure to make your health a priority! A suite of health and wellness services are available to you on campus through Student Health and Wellness to help you stay healthy and get the most out of your Lakehead experience.

Nurse Practitioner
The nurse practitioner is available for all students and provides many primary care medical services, including:

  • Physical/medical exams
  • Sexual health, education, STI testing
  • Mental health concerns
  • Birth Control, PAPs, pregnancy testing
  • Gender affirming primary care for trans and non-binary students
  • Immunizations
  • Chronic health concerns
  • Cold, sore throat, flu
  • Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Skin conditions, warts, and mole treatments

Counsellors
Free, short term, non-judgmental, client centered mental health counselling is available in person or virtually for all students.

Naturopathic Doctor
Dr. Michelle provides free naturopathic services to Lakehead students on Wednesdays. Naturopathic services include:

  • Health assessments
  • Nutrition and lifestyle counselling
  • Acupuncture
  • Cupping
  • Support with energy, hormone health, mood, digestion, and stress

Chiropractor
Dr. Tara and Dr. Allison offer chiropractic services on Thursdays at a student rate of $55/appointment. Chiropractor services are covered by most extended health benefits plans. Services include hands on adjustment, therapeutic exercises, and muscle stimulation techniques to address concerns including:

  • Headaches
  • Neck and back pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Foot pain
  • Exercise rehab

Booking an appointment
All health services offered through Student Health and Wellness are by appointment only. You can request an appointment through MySuccess, then Student Health and Wellness staff with contact you to book your appointment.

Where do appointments take place?
All in-person appointments occur in the Wellness Centre in OR 1012, on the first floor of the residence building. Some of the services are available virtually if that is preferred.

Looking to give your job search a weekly boost? Join Michelle Slywka, Career Services Officer, for drop-in support every Monday in April from 11 am to 12 pm. Have Questions About Your Sexual Health? Drop-in Appointments with a Sexual Health Nurse Now Available

Have questions about your sexual health? Come by the Wellness Centre for a drop-in appointment with Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit's Sexual Health Nurse.

The nurse can help keep your sexual health on point with routine STI testing, and answering all of your questions about birth control, emergency contraceptives, STIs, and more. Drop-ins are fast, free, and easy!

Services available include:

  • STI urine testing and treatment
  • Birth control counselling (types of birth control, how and where to get different birth control options)
  • Free barriers (condoms)
  • Emergency contraceptive counselling
  • Referrals to a physician

What happens at an appointment? That is up to you! The nurse will begin by asking you what she can help you with, and you will go from there. She will answer your questions, provide resources, make referrals, and do tests if and how you want. Have questions?
