March Break Open House - Student volunteers wanted!

Undergraduate Recruitment is once more looking for dynamic and enthusiastic student volunteers for upcoming on-campus events.

Lakehead University’s March Break Open House, Future Forward, will be hosted at the Orillia campus on Tuesday, March 14 and Wednesday, March 15. To make this event successful, Undergraduate Recruitment is looking for a variety of volunteers throughout the entire event. Due to the nature of this event, those volunteering are able to select how you wish to volunteer based on your timetable and schedule.

Below are a list of the volunteer opportunities:

Student Greeter/Runner: These have been setup as one hour shifts but can be combined to do a few hours in a row.  This individual will assist with greeting guests, assisting with pre-screening, checking guests in and providing their registration package and schedule, guiding guests to events on campus such as program sessions as well as covering the welcome table and other tasks as needed throughout the shift.

Campus Tours Guides: We will be running campus tours each day. The start times for the tours are as follows:

  • Tuesday, March 14, at 10 am and 1 pm
  • Wednesday, March 15, at 10 am and 1 pm

We are looking for volunteers to assist and support these tours. If you have dreamed of leading a tour - today is your day! Each day we are offering four tours in each time slot so looking for students each day (tour guide lead and supporter for each tour). The tours take about one hour in length. Tour guides need to be available to support the tour 15 mins prior to the tour start time.

If you have not done a tour before and would like to provide one, tour guide training and shadowing is available. We can train you! If you have done a tour before but it has been awhile, no problem, we can provide shadowing prior to the event. This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your Lakehead experience!

Student Greet/Runner: This task can change from moment to moment - you might be assisting at the registration / welcome desk, running a family who arrived late to meet up with a tour already in progress, guide a visiting student and their family to program session or even support event setup and take down depending on the time you are volunteering

Dining Hall Hosts: One of the amazing parts of attending March Break Open House is that visiting students and guests have an opportunity to have lunch in the dining hall. This can be confusing so we are looking for a few students to help guests through the Dining Hall process and then sit and chat over lunch

Program / Faculty Session Room Host: Easy task, you are in a room hosting a session, welcoming and chatting to those who are attending and also ensuring the faculty member providing it is there (if they are not - you need to quickly let the recruitment lead staff member know). Apart from that you just do a headcount of those in attendance and provide recruitment with the numbers after the lecture. Other than that, you get to sit back and relax, listen to the lecture or activity taking place.

If you are ready and willing to help, email Tori at tori.white@lakeheadu.ca for further information, including a sign up sheet that will be shared. You are then able to place your name next to the roles and tasks you would like to assist with.

All who assist with this event can have it added as part of their Co-Curricular Record!

Questions? Ask away! The recruitment team looks forward to having you assist us with this event and making our March Break Open House a great event for those attending. Without amazing volunteers such as yourselves - these events could not happen!!
