Academic Skills For Success

The Student Success Centre provides academic support to all Lakehead students. On this page, you will find handouts and online resources which can help you succeed in the classroom. Additionally, if you visit the Student Success Centre office, you can pick up additional handouts from our Academic and Career Skills Resource Wall.   

You can book an appointment with a Student Success Advisor by logging into the mySuccess portal. Once you login, select "Student Success Appointments" on the left hand side. Review the online schedule and choose a time that fits your schedule. We look forward to helping you achieve your academic potential!  

Time Management

Managing your time effectively is essential as a university student. A Student Success Advisor can help you develop strategies to: 

  • Prioritize and plan your time 
  • Begin using monthly, weekly, and daily schedules
  • Manage procrastination

Preparing for lectures and taking effective notes in class will help you improve your learning and marks. A Student Success Advisor can help you:

Study Skills and Test/Exam Prep

Exams are usually the most stressful time of the year for university students. Meeting with a Student Success Advisor can help you: 

  • Understand the exam format
  • Create a study plan for each exam
  • Learn strategies for writing different exams (multiple choice, essay exams, etc.)

Get Your Academics Back on Track

Are you unhappy with your grades? Are you not achieving the grades you need to meet your long-term goals? A Student Success Advisor can help you develop an action plan to help you get back on track. This plan can help you develop each of the academic skills listed above.  

 

Academic Integrity / AIM (Academic Integrity Matters)

Academic Integrity Matters (AIM) is a resource to help support academic skills, knowledge, and strategies that are essential to being a university student. Each module consists of short text-based resources and videos to enhance your learning. After completing the modules, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Please use the following instructions to access the AIM training modules:

1. Please go to http://mycourselink.lakeheadu.ca/

2. Log into MyCourselink using your Lakehead username and password.

3. Under the "Help" menu on the right hand side of your screen, click the "Self-Register" link.

4. Click the "Academic Integrity Matters (AIM)" link and complete the self-registration.

5. Complete the modules and then download your certificate of completion. (Note: your certificate make take up to 5 minutes to appear after successful completion).
