Bounce Back Program

The Student Success Centre offers an academic program called Bounce Back geared towards first year students. Bounce Back provides students with the attention, guidance and support they need to help achieve academic success in their Winter term. Bounce Back is delivered through a series of interactive and reflective sessions where students focus on improving their academic skills, setting SMART goals, and creating action plans to advance their academics.

Registration Opens in December 2019

Each session will focus on the following 5 areas:
  • Community Building – you’re not alone, others have similar experiences!
  • Personal Reflection – what happened?
  • Goal Setting – what do you want to achieve?
  • Success Skills – help to provide or refine skills; understand personal learning style and how to apply to academics
  • Action Plan – next steps
What can I expect at the sessions?

When you come to your sessions, you’ll be greeted by Sarena Favaro, Student Success Advisor at the Orillia campus, and Nick Alderton, Student Success Advisor at the Thunder Bay Campus, who will facilitate each session. The sessions are designed for students to meet other students who are facing similar academic difficulties; reflect on their personal academic struggles and identify areas for growth; gain knowledge and understanding about learning styles and academic skills, and then apply that learning to their own studies; and finally, create an academic action plan to implement and follow during the winter term. Each session will have a mix of independent work and group interactions.
What do I need to bring to the sessions?

Although the program materials will be provided for you at the first session, you’ll need to bring typical school supplies such as a pen or pencil, highlighters, and a notepad.
