Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Faculty of Natural Resources Management at Lakehead University.

Our Faculty has a proud history that spans more than 75 years - pre-dating the establishment of Lakehead University itself. From the beginning, we have been leaders in forestry education, research, and sustainable resource management in Northwestern Ontario and beyond.

Natural Resources Management is about understanding and addressing the complex relationship between healthy ecosystems and human activity. This includes habitat conservation, sustainable resource use, recreation, and the challenges posed by climate change. Our work embraces wildlife conservation, clean water, visual aesthetics, respect for Indigenous knowledge, and the responsible utilization of forest resources.

We are committed to student-centered learning and research excellence, preparing graduates who will shape the future of Canada’s forests and contribute to global sustainability. Our programs combine theory, hands-on experience, and cutting-edge research to meet the needs of society and the environment.

Our Faculty offers:

  • Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry (HBScF)
  • Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry and MBA (HBScF & MBA)
  • Honours Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management (HBScEM)
  • Master of Science in Forestry (MScF) – thesis-based
  • Master of Natural Resources Management (MNRM) – course-based
  • International Dual Degree (TRANSFOR-M)
  • PhD in Natural Resources Management

Graduates of our programs are adaptable and collaborative professionals who value lifelong learning. Whether you are continuing your studies, exploring your options, or simply curious about forestry and environmental management, we invite you to discover your path with us and join a community dedicated to sustainability and innovation.
