Faculty of Natural Resources Management Gains Six-Year Accreditation Renewal for HBScF/BScF Programs

Thunder Bay, ON – The commitment of the Faculty of Natural Resources Management at Lakehead University in setting graduates up for success has been recognized with a six-year accreditation renewal for its Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry (HBScF) and Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BScF) programs. The Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board (CFAB) has renewed the accreditation for the Faculty of Natural Resources Management, effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2032.
This renewed full-term national accreditation confirms the program’s quality and relevance, ensuring that the forestry education at the Faculty of Natural Resources Management at Lakehead University meets professional standards. It guarantees that students receive both a strong academic foundation and essential practical training to tackle evolving environmental and resource management challenges.
The renewed national accreditation means that graduates from both co-operative and non-co-operative streams have met the academic requirements to become Registered Professional Foresters with Canada’s provincial professional forestry associations, including those serving British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Québec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Such an accreditation is excellent news for the Faculty and for Lakehead University. It reinforces the Faculty’s dedication to supporting the next generation of professional forestry workforce across Canada” - said Dr. Brigitte Leblon, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources Management
“This accreditation renewal recognizes the HBScF/BScF program’s excellence and our commitment to the success of students, who will become professionals involved with the sustainable management of Canada’s forests.” - said Dr. Amishev, Program Chair of the Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry (HBScF) and Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BScF) programs
“This accreditation not only supports national labour mobility for graduates of the program but also reinforces the Faculty’s commitment to equipping the foresters of the future with the tools to manage our natural resources sustainably and professionally” - said Louise Simpson, CAE, Executive Director & Registrar of Ontario Professional Foresters Association (OPFA).
