In this workshop, we will explore the benefits of using rubrics as a form of assessment feedback. Particularly, we will focus on building rubrics using the Rubrics tool in mycourselink/D2L. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Determine what type of rubric(s) works best for their assessments;
• Consider how to build and use rubrics effectively;
• Develop a rubric in mycourselink/D2L that may be used for one of their course assessments.

Introducing Universal Design for Learning (UDL), this session outlines the benefits as well as the principles and practices of UDL. It also presents a wide range of easy-to-do UDL teaching/learning modifications that can be incorporated into any course or style of teaching.

The Editing your Lecture Recordings Workshop has now launched in mycourselink!

Your recordings will eventually be archived so now is the time to 'release' some of your best teaching moments, to share with your future learners. The Editing your Lecture Recordings Workshop consists of a series of short instructional videos, and online content, that will guide you through steps to edit one or more of your own lecture recordings.

This workshop will take participants through the phases of creating and grading assessments in the quiz tool.   Topics will include:

• setting up questions in the various formats

• setting the timing settings of the quiz

• setting up special access times for specific students writing at a different time or who are allowed extra time to write

• previewing the quiz as the students will see it

• viewing the results and statistics of the quiz

• grading any questions that were not automatically graded

• making the grades available to students

This course will take approximately 4 hours of your time. We ask that you complete a pre-activity on September 20th, we will work together during our online synchronous session (in Zoom) on September 21, and we will help you finalize your podcast series plan by providing feedback and ‘next steps’ on September 22.

This workshop will take a deeper dive into some of the tools introduced in the essentials workshop and introduce course tools that promote collaboration, aid in grading and feedback, and monitor student progress.  Topics will include: creating groups and associating them with the assignment and discussion tools, creating rubrics, grading students with rubrics, and exploring user progress to learn how students progress through and interact with online courses.

The Summer Teaching Institute will take place online via Zoom June 7th - 9th, 2022. This year's theme is “The First Year Experience,” with a focus on key impactful practices that aid students as they transition into university - a transition that is ever more critical given the learning experience in high schools during the pandemic AND in recognition that our second- and third-year students may have never been on campus.
