Tech Ed ABQ Course Information
Overview
The purpose of Technological Education Additional Basic Qualification (ABQ) courses is to expand your knowledge of program development, delivery, and assessment in a specific technological education area at either the grade 9/10 or 11/12 level. (You can keep the same note as other courses about being accredited)
Note: The pass mark for all ABQ courses is 70%. For information that applies to all additional qualification courses, please see our Information and Regulations for AQ and ABQ Courses page.
Tech Ed ABQ Course Prerequisites
Lakehead University’s Calendar outlines the general admission requirements for all Lakehead University courses, programs, and workshops. These prerequisites include the following:
- A general Certificate of Qualification and registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
In addition to Lakehead University’s general admission requirements, all prospective Tech Ed ABQ learners must meet the following requirements:
Grade 9/10 Tech Ed ABQ Courses
- Certificate of Qualification and Registration with Technological Education Qualifications*
Grades 11 & 12 Tech Ed ABQ Course
- a Certificate of Qualification and Registration with Technological Education Qualifications* and one of the following:
- 12 months’ work experience, including business or industrial experience, in which you used skills and knowledge related to the subject
- post-secondary education equivalent to 12 months’ work experience, including business or industrial experience, in which you used skills and knowledge related to the subject
- a combination thereof.
- Demonstrated competency related to the subject is required in any work experience described above
*Note: Educators Without Tech Ed Qualifications Must Have
- A certificate of qualification and registration
- 5 years' work experience, including business or industrial experience, or a combined total of 5 years' post-secondary education and work experience, including:
- at least two years' business or industrial work experience, at least four months of which were continuous, and post-secondary education acceptable to the OCT consisting of:
- an apprenticeship program, and
- work experience demonstrating competency based on assessment of advanced skills and knowledge, related to the technological education subject
- Eligible work experience must use skills and knowledge related to the subject
- Proof of above experience must be provided on company letterhead and include specific dates, skills, and tools used. (Email aq@lakeheadu.ca to find out more about acceptable proof.)
