Supporting Students in Distress
1. "Supporting Students in Distress" is a workshop presentation by Irene Pugliese, Manager of Wellness Services, Student Health, and Wellness.
It provides essential and practical information for instructors/staff who may encounter students in distress.

- A preview of the "Supporting Students in Distress" brochure that provides guidelines for supporting students in distress, steps to take when encountering concerning behaviour, and useful resources, both on campus and in the community in Thunder Bay and Orillia (The brochure is availble from the Health and Wellness or in the Teaching Commons.)
- Several specific sentence stems that provide useful frames for initiating necessary conversations
- "5 Tips for Active Listening"
- A list of related on-campus and off-campus resources (Note: Many of the off-campus resources are available to instructors and staff as well as students.)
- An introdution and link to More Feet on the Ground, an online traning unit from the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health (CICMH) to help instructors, stafff, etc. "[l]earn how to recognize, respond, and refer students experiencing mental health issues on campus"
