History

Nanabijou Childcare Centre was started January 1, 1988 and spent 26 years in a renovated space in the Pretti residence. Nanabijou soon out grew that space and started an after school program in the Avila Centre for 15 years. It was determined that with the space being very cramped and having to be in two separate buildings and long waitlist that something needed to change. With the help of Lakehead University, Lakehead Student Union and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund we were able to build our brand new . Our current centre is 8000 square feet and is about 40% larger then the combined two spaces rented previously. Nanabijou is now licensed for 108 children and is able to meet the high demands of childcare in a beautiful building designed and created for children and families.
