Keewatinase Indigenous Teacher Education Program (KITEP): Language Specialization (K-12) and Primary/Junior Specialization (K-6)

1. Start at this Application Page and select your Subject of Major Interest. This is where you choose between the Primary Junior Specialization or the Language Specialization. You will also choose which campus you would like to complete the in-person courses. For example, if you prefer attending in-person in Orillia as a P/J student you would select Primary/Junior Specialization (Orillia).  

2. You will then be directed to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre's (OUAC) online application. A Username and Password with OUAC will be required to complete your application. OUAC will process your application and then send it to Keewatinase Indigenous Education department for assessment. 

3. Once Keewatinase Indigenous Education department has received your OUAC application, we will contact you to complete the KITEP Supplemental Information Application Form. Please complete and submit the supplemental form along with all required supporting documents, including a reference letter and a position statement, to finalize your application.

HBEd (Indigenous Teacher Education) Primary/Junior Program & BABEd (Indigenous Learning Major) Intermediate/Senior Program

For help applying to the HBEd (Indigenous Teacher Education) Primary/Junior Program or the BABEd (Indigenous Learning Major) Intermediate/Senior Program, please contact Student Central directly at:

To apply for these programs, you will use the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre's (OUAC) online applications. OUAC processes your application and then sends it to Lakehead for assessment. 

Application Steps:

1. Create your OUAC application.

For the HBEd (Indigenous Teacher Education) Primary/Junior Program, use:

  • Program Code: AK
  • Major Interest: Aboriginal Education

For the BABEd (Indigenous Learning Major) Intermediate/Senior Program, use:

  • Program Code: AL
  • Major Interest: Indigenous Teacher Education Program

Contact your previous school(s) and have them securely email docs.admission@lakeheadu.ca with official copies of your transcript(s),

3. You will receive an email with your Offer of Admission and instructions. Use the login given to you at www.lakeheadu.ca to sign into your new email & Mylnfo.

4. Log in to Mylnfo. Register for classes and ask for Special Permission when prompted. You will need to register for classes each semester.

Where you are currently studying or have studied in the past will decide which OUAC application you will use.
