Mission/vision/strategic plan/objectives

As a well-established Lakehead University research centre, CRaNHR Lakehead continues to develop its program of research to support priority areas identified in the Lakehead University Strategic Research Plan (2018-23), specifically, Social Justice, Indigenous Research, Health Research Across the Life Span, and Northern Studies. Our objectives are to:

  • Explore factors that facilitate or impede access to socially-just health care
  • Create meaningful academic and community health research partnerships
  • Contribute to existing knowledge on rural, northern and Indigenous health status and determinants of health across the lifespan
  • Provide evidence that supports policymakers, planners and decision-makers in understanding and improving health services delivery
  • Evaluate best practices for education, recruitment and retention of health professionals and paraprofessionals in the north
  • Develop rural and northern research and evaluation capacity by partnering in educational initiatives and mentorship for practice-and community-based researchers
  • Provide opportunities for faculty, and undergraduate and graduate student mentoring and training, with a focus on research, community engagement and knowledge transfer
  • Foster knowledge transfer and exchange activities between Lakehead faculty and students and our diverse stakeholders
