Every year thousands of people gather around the world on April 28th to observe the National Day of Mourning.

The purpose of Day of Mourning is twofold – to remember and honour those lives lost or injured because of their work and to renew the commitment to prevent further deaths, injuries and diseases by improving health and safety in the workplace.  Covid 19 has ravaged workplaces and has resulted in the death and illness of thousands of workers and this years ceremony is particularly pertinent for all those affected by the pandemic.

The Thunder Bay & District Labour Council, the Thunder Bay & District Injured Workers Support Group and the Workers Health and Safety Centre are once again holding their National Day of Mourning Ceremony via Zoom.

The Day of Mourning Ceremony will be held next Wednesday April 28th at 7:00 pm and we invite you to join us in this ceremony by clicking on the link below.  I have attached a poster for the event and encourage you to pass on this invitation to your contacts.

If you can’t join in at 7 PM, take some time out to reflect and renew our work together for safer workplaces.  You may also want to light a candle and place it in a window so others can see it as well.
