During Global Entrepreneurship Week 2019, Paula Haapanen, Northern Operations Manager for the Conseil de la coopération de l'Ontario (Cooperation Council of Ontario) will present on social entrepreneurship, and its place in the global and local economy.

Recently, Sarah Shearman reported in the National Post (22 Oct) that despite the growth in acceptance of social entrepreneurship internationally, misconceptions about the concept abound.  According to the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s second global poll on the best countries for social entrepreneurs, more than half of the 900 social enterprise experts who responded said "that the public did not understand what they did" (https://nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/politics-news-pmn/whats-a-social-entrepreneur-and-other-frequently-asked-questions).

Jennifer Dagsvik practises immigration and refugee law in Thunder Bay. M. Dagsvik spent most of her career as counsel for the Department of Justice in Toronto and Vancouver.
Jennifer will be focusing on the following three topics:
-Immigration rules international students and post graduation work permit holders need to know about if they are thinking of starting a business
-What being a business owner can mean for your Express Entry application
-Overview of other immigration programs available to entrepreneurs

Joining, will be Michael Nitz, Manager of BDC who will be discussing their financing options for newcomers to Canada. BDC helps immigrants handle the typical challenges of building a company in Canada; such as little to no credit, limited knowledge of the local business environment, and cultural and language barriers.
