Before you Apply

Limited rooms still available for 2025-2026

Have your Lakehead University student username and password found in your Acknowledgement Letter ready. 

Room assignments will not be completed until the online residence housing application form has been completed and the Residence Office has received your $250.00 down payment. 

It's also important that you make sure that you have familiarized yourself with our accommodations and rates.

High School Students

This application is for students who are planning to graduate from high school in June 2026.

Applications open February/March 2026.

Returning Students

Returning students are those currently living in Residence.

Applications open February/March 2026.

Upper Year Students

Please Note:  There is no down payment required with this application.  

Upper year students are those who:

  • Graduated from high school more than one year ago
  • Transferring/graduated from another university or college
  • Current Lakehead students 
  • Professional year BEd program students or one-year HBSW program students
  • 8-month Exchange Students attending Lakehead for full academic year

International Students NEW to Lakehead

The International Student Application is for NEW International Student to Lakehead University.

Applications open February/March 2026.

Exchange Students (4 Month - Fall Term)

Four month exchange students are assigned rooms in the Residence Halls.

Spring & Summer Students

Please Note: There is no down payment required with this application

Accommodation period - May 1, 2026 to mid-August

Townhouses (maximum 4 students).
Rate - To be determined (Thunder Bay) / To be determined (Orillia)
Minimum stay is 5 days
All students are charged a $25.00 Residence Activity Fee.

Spring/Summer room charges (and tax if applicable) will be added to your student account based on the information provided on your Residence application form.  Please advise the Residence Accounts/Admissions Office of any changes with your stay.

If your stay is less than 4 weeks, you will be assessed applicable Accommodation Tax.

All residence rooms must be vacated by 12 noon August 10, 2026 (Thunder Bay) / 12 noon August 17, 2026 (Orillia) unless students are in Residence for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Meal plans are not available during the summer months.

Winter 2026 Students

Housing applications are open.  Registration deadline is November 15, 2025.

Limited rooms available.

Rooms will be booked in the order that applications are received based on availability and suitability.  Full Winter Term payment is due by December 15, 2025.

Early Arrival Requests

All students who would like to move in before the start of the Residence Contract (January 3, 2026) must submit a request to do so.   

Early arrivals requests for move-in prior to 4:00 p.m. on December 22, 2025 will be denied.

Students will be able to apply for early arrival once they have a confirmed room booking.

We will make every attempt to have your room ready for your arrival but in some cases your room may not be available.  In the event that we are unable to accommodate your request, there are several hotels close to the University.

Applying for residence has never been easier! 

  1. Complete the online form
  2. Your application will be added to our Active Applicant Pool.  If a suitable room is available, you will be contacted by email to your Lakehead University email account.  You will be required to pay the $250.00 down payment to accept the room offer.

Residence room assignment information will be emailed to Lakehead University email accounts.

Notes:

  • Students who would like to arrive at Lakehead University prior to the start of Residence Contract must submit an Early Arrival Request Form.  Early arrival charges will apply.
  • In the event that a student requires accommodation based on any disability, medical condition, height, dietary need, and/or requirements related to lifestyle, culture, gender, or religious needs please email resaccnt@lakeheadu.ca with your information. 
  • Animals that are deemed Service Animals and have been registered with the Residence Administration Office are permitted.
