It’s about having the right foundation to do what you want to do in life, and Lakehead University gave that to me.

You have to think about how you build collaboration when you are building bigger things. Lakehead was just this open space where you learn to debate and be challenged.

My hope is that I’ve contributed to healing in our communities through research, clinical care, capacity building and training of others who will continue the journey long after I’m gone.

Lakehead allowed me to gain more self-confidence, to open up to others. After getting my degree in forestry, I flew back to France and started working in forestry. Then, I moved into the barrels business and from the barrels business to the wine business. From forest, to barrels, and then to wines – what more could I ask for?

It is amazing how Lakehead University has permanently embarked such a positive experience over my life. It gave me an opportunity to access various platforms through which I expanded my horizons to imbibe knowledge about the business world with the help of some great mentors.

I want all young people to have opportunities to build networks of support through intentional mentorship.

Transferring to Lakehead University for my last two years after attending a large [impersonal university] was the best decision I ever made! It is where I discovered a passion for philosophy and sociology, through two incredible professors, which led me down a successful career path.

Many of the inventors for whom I write patent applications have commented on my ability to express complex technical topics in an easy to understand manner, something that I learned from one of my professors at Lakehead University.

Places like Lakehead are unique because they have always offered a very well-rounded experience, producing diverse alumni with good character that is representative of the current business landscape.

Lakehead University gave me the knowledge, hands-on experience and opportunities needed to succeed in environmental consulting. It taught me the western science perspective on the interconnectedness of natural freshwater environments that now helps me understand and communicate the science hidden within Indigenous knowledge.

I see a direct path from my first steps onto the Lakehead University campus to where I am today. Lakehead gave me the direction, focus and passion to achieve some pretty cool things.

Lakehead University connected me to my home and my future, which has become my family.

Learning how to manage my time as a [Lakehead University] student while traveling around the way we did kind of taught me how to manage my life now.

Besides academic success and lifelong friendships, Lakehead University provided me with leadership lessons serving me to this day. To treat everyone with dignity and respect is at the core of the leadership acumen starting from my years at Lakehead.

I’ve also learned that homelessness doesn’t have to exist – it’s the by-product of a broken system that we need to work together to fix, because it’s not the people who are broken.

At Lakehead University I learned that anything is possible, you just have to be resourceful.

I considered a couple of other universities, but the small-class sizes at Lakehead Orillia afforded me the one-on-one attention I needed to build a solid foundation for my post-secondary career

The Bora Laskin Faculty of Law has shaped my legal career as I was able to start building practical skills and gain hands-on experience from the very beginning of my legal education. The small class sizes also allowed me to get to know my colleagues on a personal level and foster lifelong friendships

At [Lakehead University] I met some of my greatest mentors who ignited my lifelong passion for teaching, learning and storytelling. I learned to speak my truth and be true to my passions in life.

The understanding of humankind, culture and society that I learned at Lakehead University provided a rich context for many of the diverse positions I have held throughout my career. And now as a politician, the ability to observe without judgment is critical to understanding the variety of constituents that I serve both in my riding and across the country.

Lakehead has been for me what I always understood a university was supposed to be – a place that gives you the chance to find out who you are, and then guides you on your way to become who you were always meant to be.

During my degree, I gained hands-on experience through field school and by working for a mining company in the summer. I just graduated, have already started a new job, and Lakehead University helped me prepare for it.

Studying at Lakehead University led me to develop a curiosity in my writing and experimentation with my music. Today, I’m a professional flamenco guitarist and composer, working with some of the best artists in Canada.

Lakehead University prepared me for the rest of my life. It set the groundwork for how I would attack life and learning going forward.

Everywhere I went, I found a friendly face and support when I needed it. My Lakehead University experience was exceptional.
