Specialization as a Teacher of Indigenous Learners Certificate
Our Specialization as a Teacher of Indigenous Learners Certificate provides all concurrent education students with the opportunity to develop a better understanding of Indigenous knowledge, cultures, and teachings. This Specialization adds an Indigenous focus to your area of study and helps you to develop the necessary skills to share Indigenous knowledge with learners.
Our Specialization as a Teacher of Indigenous Learners Certificate is open to all students studying in the P/J or I/S divisions. Once you complete this specialization as well as your degree, we will add it to your transcript and recommend you to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
Program Information
To earn your Specialization as a Teacher of Indigenous Learners Certificate, you must include the following courses into your program of study:
- EDUC 3010/INDI 3010 & EDUC 3012
- English 2717/Indigenous Learning 2717 and a half credit in English chosen from 3570, 3751 or 2510
- Indigenous Learning 1100 or one FCE in Indigenous Learning
- One half-course equivalent chosen from: Education 2130, 2150, 3130, 3150, 3235, 3270
- Ojibwe 1013/1015 or Ojibwe 1014/1016 or Cree 1010/1012 or another FCE in an Indigenous Language
To receive this certificate, you must maintain an average of at least 65% in the above courses.
How to Apply
There is no formal application for our Specialization as a Teacher of Indigenous Learners Certificate; however, you must complete the above courses as part of your study. Once you complete these requirements, we will add your qualifications to your academic record.
