The Indigenous Outreach and Recruitment mandate is to engage Indigenous learners and service the community locally and throughout the Province. Through outreach and recruitment services such as presentations, one on one visits and participation in the Aboriginal Post-Secondary Information Program (APSIP) we strive to reach and connect with Indigenous learners from senior elementary, high school and mature students. Our goal is to support our learners in the transition to Post secondary and beyond. Our office supports and partners with community to connect and support our students not only in their educational goals but we strive to support their career aspirations, employment potential, as well as their personal and professional development.

 Recruitment Activities

The Office of Indigenous Initiatives Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator facilitates student and community connections through a variety of recruitment activities events throughout the year.

Anna was born and raised in Thunder Bay and is currently pursuing her B.A. in Sociology at Lakehead University. She is a graduate of Confederation College’s Aboriginal Law and Advocacy Diploma and also obtained a Certificate in Canadian Aboriginal Relations. Anna is enthusiastic about her position as Lakehead’s Coordinator of Indigenous Outreach and Recruitment and as a full-time member of the Office of Indigenous Initiatives. As a student, Anna believes education is the key to achieving your dreams. She is proud to be able to share what Lakehead University and Thunder Bay has to offer prospective students. She notes, “Lakehead University has been a wonderful experience for me and the faculty and staff have been amazing, constantly encouraging me in achieving my educational goals”.

Why do you enjoy working at Lakehead University? 
I love working at Lakehead because it has allowed me to meet and work with some really wonderful students and staff. I have had the opportunity to learn about some remarkable research happening here on campus and it has inspired me to make the decision to take my studies at Lakehead to the next level.

What do you like most about studying at Lakehead? 
I love the amazing staff and professors I have met during my time at Lakehead. The professors have all been great and have challenged my critical thinking skills, and taught me to think beyond borders and embrace the world.


Any advice for upcoming Lakehead students? 
I think the biggest piece of advice I can give is to get involved not only in your classes/department, but in all the great activities and clubs Lakehead has to offer...Challenge yourself!
