Graduate Programs

The Department of History at Lakehead University offers a Master of Arts in History (MA). Broadly speaking, our program specializes in Canadian, European, and World History. Our faculty consists of some of Lakehead University’s leading researchers and scholars. Students have the option of following a Thesis, Major Research Paper/Project, or Course Work program.

Our graduate programs aim to develop students’ skills in a wide variety of areas, centred chiefly on the development of their ability to read sophisticated historical material, their ability to research and to write reports and essays rooted in historical evidence, their ability to think independently and critically, and their ability to understand current affairs in an historical context. Our Masters provides excellent preparation for further graduate studies at the PhD level. An MA in History prepares graduates for a diverse range of job opportunities. Graduates with an MA in History are found wherever analytical, writing and organizational skills are needed.
