in collaboration with Lakehead University and Orillia Natives Women’s Group. The Storytelling Circle Project was created to bring together our grandmothers, mothers and aunties within our community. We want our Anishnabee women to be able to feel comfortable to discuss and talk about their life stories, good or bad, through storytelling. We are not only able to heal and recover from past trauma when talking about our life stories but were also able to work on various projects from painting arts, collages to making signs and Christmas cards and our final project, Ribbon Skirt Making. The Storytelling Circle Project has given our group the opportunity to engage in our culture and traditions of our First Nations Women, especially the importance of wearing a Ribbon Skirt when attending ceremonies, eg. Full Moon Ceremony. Our Storytelling Circle consists of 12-14 participants who attend regularly every two weeks. Due to the success of the project we were unable to accommodate any new participants.
We look forward to continue working with Lakehead University.
