In February 2000, Lakehead University created the Innovation Management Office with the assistance of a grant funds from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).  The office changed its name to the Economic Development and Innovation Office (EDI), in February 2011.  The office continued to grow over the years and updated its name to the Office of Innovation, Partnerships and Economic Development (IPED) in February 2021.

The IPED office continues to be funded through the generous assistance of organizations such as:

• the Intellectual Property Management Program through NSERC and the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR), and
• the Ministry of Research and Innovation through our participation in OPIC.
