What is Student Conduct?

Lakehead University is committed to building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive community where Students, Employees and visitors can work and learn in an environment that supports the academic mission of the University adheres to University policies and respects the dignity and work of members of the Lakehead University community.

The Student Code of Conduct includes both the Academic Integrity and Non-Academic Codes which reflect the expectation that Students will conduct themselves in a manner consistent with University policies, protocols, procedures and regulations as well as in compliance with all federal, provincial and municipal laws, including human rights codes and policies, as well as all professional standards and codes of ethics that govern Students who are members of regulated professions.

The intention of Lakehead University is to ensure fair treatment, a transparent process and consistent application in the administration of the Academic Integrity Code, as well as the Non-Academic Code.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Students’ responsibilities include:

  1. The responsibility to support an environment free from harassment, intimidation, discrimination, assault and sexual and gendered violence;
  2. The responsibility to uphold an atmosphere of civility, honesty, equity and respect for others, thereby valuing the inherent diversity within our community;
  3. The responsibility to consider and respect others, even when the Student does not agree with their perspective or ideas;
  4. The responsibility to behave in a way that does not harm or threaten to harm another person’s physical or mental wellbeing;
  5. The responsibility to respect the property of others including University Premises and University Property;
  6. The responsibility to not disrupt or interfere with university activities or functions (e.g. classes and other academic activities, University programs, co-curricular activities, etc.);
  7. The responsibility to appropriately respect the personal privacy of others;
  8. The responsibility to be acquainted with and adhere to University policies, protocols, procedures and regulations;
  9. The responsibility to act in accordance with all civil, provincial, and federal laws and to be in compliance with human rights codes and policies; and
  10. The responsibility to comply with any Sanctions implemented under any code (Non-Academic Code or Academic Integrity Code), and respecting the authority of University.
