Mitacs Information Session for Graduate Students

Dear Lakehead University Graduate Student:

Would you like to learn how to put your talent to work with an organization in Canada or travel overseas to conduct research?  Then Mitacs might just be the opportunity for you!


Mitacs offers a suite of research and training programs which enable companies (for example under Mitacs Accelerate)  to connect with top Canadian researchers.  As well, there are international research opportunities offered by Mitacs.  For example, as a student, you may be interested in the Globalink Research Award  which funds research collaborations between senior undergraduate and graduate students and faculty members at a university overseas.

Christine Macdonald, Director, Business Development & Team Lead - Ontario, Mitacs Inc., will be at Lakehead University on September 7  to deliver an information session on the various programs Mitacs offers for graduate students from 11:30 to 1:30 in the Faculty Lounge.  Pizza will be served starting at 11:30.

About the Workshop: This session will explore the financial aspects of administering your research grants and will be beneficial to all new and existing researchers as well as their key staff.  We will cover topics including how to access your funds, expense eligibility, financial reporting, wage related costs and travel costs.   Refreshments will be served. As you start your research career at Lakehead University, it’s important to know that you are not alone. In this session, you will learn strategies from experienced faculty members about how to get your program of research started. You will learn about the expectations of Promotion, Tenure, and Renewal and how to cultivate a peer support system and reach out to peer mentors. Finally, you will develop strategies to balance the demands of teaching, research, and service.

This workshop is for you. The workshop will include a guest speaker who has experience as a SSHRC adjudicator and who will offer an adjudicator’s perspective on building a strong application.
