Lakehead University hosting Canadian Math Kangaroo competition

Lakehead University’s Department of Mathematical Sciences is a regional host for the Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest for the fourth year in a row.  

The contest will be held in Thunder Bay on Sunday, March 20 in the University’s Ryan Building, starting at 11 am. New this year, an on-campus training session will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 11 am in the Ryan Building.

“The purpose of this competition is to introduce math challenges to students in grades 1 to 12 in a fun and enjoyable way with the hope of inspiring even more interest and advancement in mathematics,” said Christopher Chlebovec, Lecturer at Lakehead University.

Participating in math contests boosts a young person’s confidence and provides the opportunity to interact with like-minded peers.

The Mathematical Kangaroo Contest is an international competition that takes place in more than 50 countries around the world. In 2015 more than six million students participated, including 4,197 from Canada.
