Calling all FUTURE THUNDERWOLVES!!  Join us for March Break Open and gear up to join the pack!

Join us at Lakehead University's campus in Orillia, Ontario during March Break between 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on March 12-14, 2019. This event is open to ALL - incoming high school graduates, college or university transfer students and mature students!

Welcome Center / Cafeteria Building - Lakehead University, 500 University Ave, Orillia  (google map link)

Campus Tours daily from 9:00 am - 9:45 am,  11:00 am to 11:45 am. and 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm (approximately 45 mins in length)

Residence Tours daily at 9:45 am, 11:45 am, and 1:45 pm (15 minutes in length)  *Please note all campus tours end in residence where the residence tour will then start

Program and Academic Fair - Learning Commons

10:00 am to 2:00 pm daily during the event

In addition to chatting with faculty and current students at the program table as part of the Program and Academic Fair, jump aboard the bus and travel downtown to our Heritage Place campus – home of the Faculty of Education's Professional Program.  Tour the facilities and see where you'll learn about teaching children from Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Leaving from outside Simcoe Hall at 11:45 am daily (leaving HP at 12:45 pm, arriving back at the main campus around 1:00 pm).

Join Dr. Visser as she takes you into the world of psychopaths. Learn a little bit about what makes these individuals dangerous while exploring psychology with a twist of criminality.

University Lecture - Literacy/Education
Media Literacy
Join our Literacy/Education professor, Meridith Lovell-Johnston, as we explore the media literacy curriculum through Disney (or other) fairy-tale movie posters. Analyze how we view and compare these and finally create a movie poster for a book of your choice.

 

Sit In a Class - Drop In Class Times and Options

Daily throughout the day you will have the opportunity sit in an actual university class and interact with current students from your program of interest. Please note the topics offered may not be directly related to your program of interest but attending will provide you with a great opportunity to sit in a university class.

Philosophy - Defense Against the Dark Arts

Room OA 2018 - Tuesday, March 12  10:00 AM-11:30 AM

Instructor: Dr John Han

A study of reasoning and argument in real-life contexts such as editorials, magazine articles, political speeches, and videos. The purpose of the course is to foster the ability to think critically, detect flaws in fallacious arguments, and defend against the dark arts of sophistry and rhetoric employed by politicians, corporations, and fake news sites in an attempt to manipulate individuals and the public. This course is about logical thinking, and there is a lot of fun there too - check it out!


English - British Romanticism

Room - 2018 - Tuesday, March 12 - 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm

Instructor - Dr Alice den Otter

A study of texts from the Romantic period (roughly 1770 to 1830). Formal and political innovations by authors such as William Blake, Jane Austen, William Wordsworth, the Shelleys, and John Keats that helped create “the spirit of the age” will be analyzed. Topics to be covered may include self-representation, the imagination, the sublime, the rights of women, revolution, abolition, nature, and heroism. Debates about the value of "Romantic" as a critical term will also be considered.

Anthropology - Archaeology of Europe

Room - OA 2015 Wednesday, March 13th 10:00AM-11:30AM

Instructor: Dr. Tim Kaiser
Topics and research problems in European archaeology, from the first Europeans to the formation of states and empires. Topics may include the life-ways of Neanderthals and other early hunter-gatherers, Ice Age art, the origins and spread of farming, early metallurgy, the development of inequality, and the interactions between civilized and barbarian societies.


Geography- Climatology

Room: OA 2015 - - Wednesday, March 13th - 11:30 am to 12:30 pm

Instructor: Dr. William R. Horne

An examination of atmosphere processes, weather phenomena, macroclimates, microclimates and the nature of climatic change. Laboratory work will include the analysis of meteorological and climatological data and the study of weather maps.

Criminology - Forensic Psychology

Room -  OA - 1022 - Thursday, March 14th - 10:00 AM-11:30 AM
Instructor: Dr. Beth Visser

An examination of the relationship between psychology, crime, and the legal system. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of the psychologist in criminal justice proceedings. During this class, the students are examining the topic of sentencing and parole.


Anthropology  - Anthropology of Art

Room - OA 2015 - Thursday, March 14th 1:00 PM- 2:30 PM

Instructor: Dr. Tim Kaiser

Cross-cultural and diachronic consideration of art and art-making in human societies. The arts of hunter-gatherers, simple farmers, and complex societies – today and in the past – are examined in comparative perspective. The ethnography and archaeology of visual arts, music, dance, and body art are brought to bear on the question: is art a human universal?


Business - Business Communications  

Room - OA 2015 - Thursday, March 14th - 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm

Instructor - Mr. Christopher Lusty

Building on the knowledge and skills acquired in Business Writing I, this course will require students to further develop their writing skills in specific contexts for specific audience needs, interests and abilities. The course emphasizes an awareness of audience, considering purpose, culture (including Indigenous culture) and abilities, and develops suitable skills and techniques in the processes of drafting, revising, editing, and documenting sources in a business context through memos, letters, email, and research reports. The course will also require students to develop a working knowledge of relevant word processing applications.

Travelling to campus from the GTA or Barrie?  Why not jump aboard the Lakehead bus for a stress-free commute to March Break Open House!!  Let us look after driving you to and from campus all while you enjoy learning more about Lakehead and getting to know a little more about those riding along with you!  Bus available each day with a variety of pick up locations and times. The bus from the GTA arrives on campus just before 10:00 am and leaves at 2:00 pm daily to do the return trip. There is NO COST or fee for using the bus.
