Music professor to perform in Russia

Dr. Evgueni Tchougounov, professor of piano performance at Lakehead UniversityDr. Evgueni Tchougounov, professor of piano performance at Lakehead University, has been invited to perform two concerts and give piano masterclasses in Russia this coming spring. The first concert will take place on April 13 at the Moscow State Pedagogical University and another one in his hometown Gorno-Altaisk in Siberia on April 26, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of that city's music school. In addition to the concerts, Dr. Tchougounov will be conducting several masterclasses at various post-secondary music institutions.

Raag-Rung Music Circle Donates to Music Department

Four $500 scholarships were donated by the Raag-Rung Music Circle raised at the recent Evening of Fabulous Food and Marvelous Music of India held at the Italian Cultural Centre. The evening featured performance of classical Indian music by  G.S. Sachdev on bansuri and Nitin Mitta on tabla.

Composition Professional Reading Project

Several students composers will participate in the New Music North Professional Reading Project December 16-17, 2012.  Supported by the Ontario Arts Council Northern Arts Program, the project is a rare opportunity for aspiring young composers to have their compositions read and performed by professional musicians. Reading sessions and the final showcase of works are free and open to the public. Thunder Bay musicians Penelope Clarke, flute; E-Chen Hsu, clarinet; Karine Breton, bassoon; Catherine Jillings, viola; Anthony Bacon, violoncello; Jean-Francois Breton, percussion are all instrumental instructors at the Lakehead University Department of Music.
