Faculty Orientation (New Faculty and Contract Lecturers)

Lakehead University respectfully acknowledges its campuses are located on the traditional lands of Indigenous peoples.

Lakehead Thunder Bay is located on the traditional lands of the Fort William First Nation, Signatory to the Robinson Superior Treaty of 1850. Lakehead Orillia is located on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg. The Anishinaabeg include the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Pottawatomi nations, collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy.

Lakehead University acknowledges the history that many nations hold in the areas around our campuses, and is committed to a relationship with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples based on the principles of mutual trust, respect, reciprocity, and collaboration in the spirit of reconciliation.

Welcome to Lakehead University, we are excited to have you join our community! Providing new faculty members and course instructors with access to the resources they need to be successful in their first year of academia and beyond is a priority of the Provost. These resources include an introduction to the departments that provide support to students and the broader University community.

Through orientation, you will have opportunities to connect with Deans, Chairs/Directors, and senior academic and administrative staff members whose varied expertise can help you thrive at Lakehead.

Our orientation sessions have a dual focus of connecting you with various services and tools you will want to have at your fingertips, as well as those that you may need to support your students.

New Faculty Orientation (August 26 and 27, 2024)

To support you as you transition into your new position, we have designed our New Faculty Orientation with an asynchronous course site, and a two-day in person event. Our hope is that this delivery format will both welcome you and provide information that will make you feel a part of the Lakehead community, in a timely way.
