STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS

Over the past year, Lakehead has been laying the groundwork for the future. This complex and consultative undertaking is being guided by the Draft Strategic Plan 2013-18 created by the Board of Governors.

This document, which is in the process of being finalized, will be critical in transforming Lakehead into an institution that is a standard bearer of academic achievement and a positive economic and social catalyst.

The Draft Strategic Plan 2013-18 articulates a broad vision based on five components:

Growth and Capacity Development

Enhancing the University's long-term economic sustainability and achieving an overall enrolment in excess of 10,000 students by 2018.

Nurturing Scholarship

Integrating teaching, learning, and research into a holistic framework and establishing an international reputation for academic excellence.

Learner-Centred Student Experience

Offering opportunities for an active lifestyle and providing comprehensive student supports in a collaborative learning environment.

Community Engagement

Increasing the number of Northwestern Ontario and Simcoe County students enrolled at the University.

Economic Development

Furthering the economic aspirations of the University's communities and stakeholders through research, commercialization, education, and Centres of Excellence

The Academic Plan 2012-2017 is working in tandem with the Draft Strategic Plan to realize Lakehead's goals and ensure the long-term sustainability of the University.

The Academic Plan, approved by the Senate, has several key priorities:

  • Achieve Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Research
  • Extend Community Engagement and Outreach
  • Strengthen our Commitment to Social Justice
  • Enhance our Support of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (Aboriginal) Students
  • Expand our International Reach
