Thunder Bay High School Mathematics Contest
Lakehead University
May 14, 2003

The Organizers and Origins of the Contest

Math contest sparkplug Ryan Holm (pictured to the right) graduated from St. Ignatius High School, Thunder Bay in 2002. Ryan contacted the Lakehead University Department of Mathematical Sciences in the Spring of 2002 about a mathematics contest for high school students.

Ryan is now a mathematics major at the University of Waterloo, but has been very active during the summer of 2002 with contest planning and fund raising, and is still an active participant in ongoing activities for the contest. He has an outstanding record of achievement in math contests, himself, and strongly believes that a Thunder Bay contest would stimulate other high school math achievers.

Retired professor Clement Kent (pictured below) spearheads the contest for the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Lakehead University. Prof. Kent was recently on the front page of the Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal discussing the upcoming TD Canada Trust High School Mathematics competition. To read the article, click here.
