As you start your research career at Lakehead University, it’s important to know that you are not alone. In this session, you will learn strategies from experienced faculty members about how to get your program of research started.

 

You will learn about the expectations of Promotion, Tenure, and Renewal and how to cultivate a peer support system and reach out to peer mentors. Finally, you will develop strategies to balance the demands of teaching, research, and service.

On Thursday, October 18, 2018, Lakehead University, through the Economic Development & Innovation office, invites all NSERC-eligible researchers to participate in a new and entertaining networking breakfast event, Industry SPEED Connect.

Industry SPEED Connect is being held in partnership with the Lakehead University’s annual Engineering Career Fair at the Thunder Bay campus.

SPEED is designed to provide an opportunity for business and industry to connect with students, researchers and faculty members from Lakehead University’s Engineering departments.

Join us for an informative and engaging morning workshop about the proposed Tri-Agency Research Data Management (RDM) Policy (https://www.science.gc.ca/eic/site/063.nsf/eng/h_97610.html).  Jeff Moon, Director of Portage (https://portagenetwork.ca/) will discuss the implications of this proposed policy for researchers, Research Offices, and other stakeholders.  He will describe services and tools developed by Portage to help researchers and institutions meet Tri-Agency policy requirements, and the role of Federal government funding in advancing RDM in Canada.

The session will explore the financial aspects of administering your research grants and will be beneficial to all new and existing researchers as well as their key staff. 

 

Topics covered include purchasing cards, travel, approval authority, salary & employer costs, and procurement.

Did you know that success rates in the SSHRC Insight competition have increased in the last year, and that there are now two streams within this competition? This workshop will make sure you know all the ins-and-outs of the Insight Grant (internal deadline October 1), from eligibility, to allowable expenses, to tips and tricks for the application. The workshop will be led by Dr. PhebeAnn Wolframe-Smith, SSHRC/CIHR Research & Knowledge Mobilization Facilitator. Dr. Matt Tocheri will be a guest speaker at the workshop talking about his experience as an applicant.
 
The workshop will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2018 from 10 am – 12 pm in ATAC 5035 and by videoconference in OA 2005. Refereshments will be served.
