Since 2019, representatives from Lakehead University, the Orillia Area Community Development Corporation, the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Orillia’s Business Development and Communications Department have been exploring the concept of a unique local innovation initiative.
The partners received funding from the County of Simcoe and the City of Orillia to conduct a feasibility study to gain a greater understanding of the programming needs required in the local and regional entrepreneurial ecosystem.
While we have expertise to predict the programming required in this space, we need to ensure that our ideas are not duplicating the landscape, but rather leveraging the existing synergies and collaborations to truly transform our ecosystem.
Upcoming consultations are intended to better understand the needs of local entrepreneurs, as well as to understand the infrastructure and landscape that currently exists to drive innovation forward, whether it be through a living lab scenario, arts and culture or special projects to grow existing business.
By ensuring all stakeholders have a chance to voice their opinion and required needs in our broad ecosystem, we will ensure that we build out a sustainable model for the centre and more importantly create opportunities that will benefit and enhance resources within the region.
