The Graduate Diploma in Health Services and Policy Research is offered by Lakehead University as one of six Ontario Universities that have established the Ontario Training Centre in Health Services and Policy Research (OTC).

Health services research is intended to inform policy development and decision making regarding the organization, funding, and delivery of health services, or the allocation of resources dedicated to improving health. Increasing the number of health services researchers to address critical issues in effective and efficient health care delivery has been identified as a high priority by national research funding agencies.
The Graduate Diploma program has a number of unique features. Courses, many being developed for distance education delivery, will be available from any of the six participating universities (Lakehead, Laurentian, McMaster, Ottawa, Toronto, and York). Students will attend summer institutes that address important issues in health services research. Field placements will be done in policy settings and with health services researchers.

Applicants for admission must be graduates of a recognized university, college, or institute as well as show evidence of scholarly achievement. Except where otherwise stated in the Admission Requirements of a particular program, degree students must have a four year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least second class standing (B) based on their last 20 half courses or equivalent.
An applicant holding a degree other than one in the discipline area to which admission is sought will be considered on the basis of courses taken and academic standing. A Qualifying Year at the undergraduate level may be required to meet the admission standards. Courses taken as part of a Qualifying Year can not be used as credit towards a graduate degree.
Meeting the minimum requirements does not necessarily guarantee admission. No candidate will be admitted unless the academic unit recommends admission. All applicants will be advised by the Office of Graduate Studies in writing of their admission status.

Admission decisions will be made by the Program Admissions Committee on the basis of aptitude for health services research, career plan, and plan of study in the diploma. At the time of application, students will normally have completed 1.5 full course equivalents towards their graduate degree and identified a Health Service or Policy research area to be eligible for consideration to the Graduate Diploma.
Documents to Be Submitted
Application deadline is March 31st for entry in the Fall term. In order for your application package to be considered complete, you must submit one (1) completed copy of each of the following:
- The autobiographical letter must describe your interests in health services and policy research. Please outline your career plans, research interests, and suitability for the health services and policy research program. (letter not to exceed five pages)
- The curriculum vitae must include information about scholarships and academic awards you have received, your background, work experience, publications and presentations. If you are interested in mental health services research, please outline previous work and other experience in this area.
- A letter from a graduate faculty member with whom you have worked (usually your supervisor) commenting on your academic progress, your communication abilities and your potential to become a health services researcher must be submitted. The letter must be in a sealed envelope with the referee's signature across the seal
