History for Lunch / Black History Month on Tuesday 10 February will feature Dr. Ronald Harpelle who will be speaking on “Return of the Regiment: World War I and the Radicalization of West Indian Workers in Costa Rica.
History for Lunch is a lecture series sponsored by the Department of History and, in recognition of the centennial of the First World War, is focused this year on non-Canadian aspects of the conflict. This is an opportunity to put a bit of History in your diet and for members of the Department of History to showcase their research. This presentation is part of Lakehead University’s In Conversation speaker series returns to the Thunder Bay Public Library this year with talks scheduled from October until April. Experts from Lakehead University will give free presentations about dementia, Aboriginal People’s legal rights, climate change, Indigenous children and adoption, and the development of Lakehead University during its first 50 years.

As part of Culture Days 2014, the first film produced in the city, “Port Arthur and Fort William: Canada’s Keys to the Great Lakes” (1913) will be screened and Dr. Michel S. Beaulieu, Chair of the Department of History and a specialist in early Canadian film, will introduce the film and answer questions.
