You are invited to join the Department of Biology M.Sc. candidates in their annual retreat at Kingfisher Lake.


Saturday

Arrival at 9:30 am. Coffee, new grad student and faculty introduction briefs 9:30 - 11:00 am

Walk in the woods to observe plant succession in a bogs and lake 11:30 am -12 noon. Drs.Hutchison and Mallik will talk about forest floor fungi, infilling bog and succession.

Lunch (arranged by students): 12:30 -1:30 pm

Boreal ecology interpretive hike 1:30 – 3:30 pm: Narrators Dr. Azim Mallik and Guest Mycologist, Dr. Leonard Hutchison, Faculty of Natural Resource and Management.

3:30 - 5: 00 pm coffee, free time (outside!)

5 pm – 6 pm Dinner (arranged by students)

7 – 8 pm Free time (campfire starts by 8:00 pm)

9 - 10 pm: Fireside discussion: Life as a graduate student, future career goals, job opportunities and other matters of interest.

Sunday

Breakfast at 9 am followed by an interactive discussion on challenges and opportunities in conducting research as a graduate student.
